Electromechanical Properties of Poly(vinylidene fluoride- trifluoroethylene) Networks

چکیده
Random copolymers of 65% vinylidene fluoride and 35% trifluoroethylene were reacted with an organic peroxide, in combination with a free-radical trap, to yield networks of high crosslink density. Crystallization subsequent to the crosslinking yielded ferroelectric materials exhibiting large electrostrictive strains. The magnitude of the electromechanical response increased with an increasing degree of crosslinking, even though this reduced the crystallinity. For the most crosslinked sample, longitudinal (thickness) strains as high as 12% were induced at an electric field of 9 MV/m. This electrostrictive performance exceeded that obtained to date with any poly(vinylidene fluoride) material. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part B: Polym Phys 40:

Adsorbate/absorbate interactions with organic ferroelectric polymers
We discuss the interactions of adsorbates with the organic ferroelectric copolymer poly(vinylidene fluoride (PVDF)–trifluoroethylene (TrFE)). Range of molecular adsorbates is discussed from the smaller polar molecules like water, which is small enough to both adsorb and absorb, to the larger macrocyclic metal–organic metal phthalocyanines. The changes in local dipole orientation may affect the ...
متن کاملEffect of Interfacial Interactions on the Electromechanical Response of Poly(vinylidene Fluoride-trifluoroethylene)/batio 3 Composites and Its Time Dependence after Poling
Solvent cast and compression molded composite films based on poly(vinylidene fluoride-trifluoroethylene), containing pristine and silylated BaTiO 3 particles, were poled, and their electromechanical response (d 33), their dielectric properties, and the crystalline structure of the embedded BaTiO 3 particles, probed by X-ray diffraction, were recorded during one week. Their d 33 was also measure...
متن کاملFerroelectric Properties and Polarization Switching Kinetic of Poly (vinylidene fluoride-trifluoroethylene) Copolymer
The discovery of the piezoelectric properties of poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) by Kawai [Kawai, 1969], and the study of its pyroelectric and nonlinear optical properties [Bergman et al., 1971; Glass, 1971] led to the discovery of its ferroelectric properties in the early 1970s. Since that time, considerable development and progress have been made on both materials and devices based on PVDF. ...
متن کاملRevisiting the δ-phase of poly(vinylidene fluoride) for solution-processed ferroelectric thin films.
Ferroelectric poly(vinylidene-fluoride) (PVDF) has, in the past, been proposed as an ideal candidate for data storage applications as it exhibits a bistable, remanent, polarization that can repeatedly be switched by an electric field. However, fabrication of smooth ferroelectric PVDF thin films, as required for microelectronic applications, is a long-standing problem. At present, the copolymer ...
متن کاملFabrication and Characterization of Ferroelectric Poly(Vinylidene Fluoride-Trifluoroethylene) (P(VDF-TrFE)) Thin Film on Flexible Substrate by Detach-and-Transferring
In this paper, a 60 nm-thick ferroelectric film of poly(vinylidene fluoride–trifluoroethylene) on a flexible substrate of aluminum foil was fabricated and characterized. Compared to pristine silicon wafer, Al-foil has very large root-mean-square (RMS) roughness, thus presenting challenges for the fabrication of flat and uniform electronic devices on such a rough substrate. In particular, RMS ro...
